  • Criminal Justice
    • The United States has the highest rate of incarceration of any country in the world. Our criminal justice system systematically targets poor people and people of color and introduces them to the prison industrial complex. At ICNA CSJ, we believe in truth-in-sentencing, abolishment of the death penalty, and that those behind bars should have access to religious freedoms. Our civil liberties are important, whether we enjoy freedom, or are bound by the harsh conditions of incarceration.

  • Immigration
    • From decade-long wait times to The Muslim Ban, the American immigration system is fundamentally broken and unjust. We believe that the pathway to citizenship should be fair and that our friends and neighbors who are the fabric of our society deserve the right to stand amongst us as citizens.

  • Poverty
    • The United States boasts the highest rate of poverty in any developed country around the world. From our large cities to our rural population, families are struggling to put food on the table. The statistics have shown some harrowing results- certain people are more likely to struggle with food insecurity, homelessness, debt, and extreme financial hardship. The government and our policies are complicit, making it harder for people of color to build generational wealth, or even earn the equivalent of their white peers. At the same time, people around the globe are suffering from extreme destitution and hunger resulting from famine, poverty, and political instability. Global policy allocates some United States funding to help uplift these vulnerable communities, but these efforts have fallen short. We at ICNA CSJ believe that our citizens should have equal opportunities and access to wealth, and government aid, but also that our global community should see our country as a means of relief that can help to uplift and empower nations that are struggling to feed their populations.

  • Islamophobia
    • Since the September 11th attacks, American Muslims have been facing discrimination and abuse, not just from their fellow citizens, but also from the United States Government. Since 9/11, American Muslims have had to deal with harassment from their coworkers and community members, which have even led to violent attacks. They have also been surveilled, illegally detained, withheld from jobs, and even banned from entering their country. The freedom to practice religion freely is a right guaranteed to every American, and at ICNA CSJ, we work to preserve that right by raising awareness and advocating for relevant policies on the state and federal levels.

  • Global Injustice
    • From the Hindutva movement in India to life under apartheid for the Palestinian people, ICNA CSJ tracks systems of global injustice around the world. We work to advocate for policies that hold countries accountable whether through sanctions or through intervention. We believe that governments belong to their people and that we must prevent oppression at home and abroad.

    • We believe that religion is more than grounding experience that tethers people to a larger community. Freedom or religious expression and practice is a constitutional right that must be guaranteed even under the harsh extremes of incarceration. We aim to ensure that our faith communities are allowed their constitutional right to practice their religion, even when all their other freedoms have been stripped away. We work with federal, state, and local correctional facilities to ensure incarcerated people have access to religious materials.

  • Stop School Bullying
    • School bullying in America is as old as one-room school houses with a single teacher for first through the twelfth grades. As the ethnic, racial, and religious composition of schools became more diverse, school bullying has increased exponentially. ICNA CSJ provides anti-bullying workshops to students, parents, teachers, and school administrators to ensure a safe learning environment for all.
